Better Note Templates

I'm looking for some help on how to use the templates with better notes. I'm confused as to how they work.

  • Me too! I'm trying to create a simple template that will input the citekey and title and tags for the parent paper, plus my markdown prompts for my paper.
Can't seem to just find a simple way to do this. If I set the template to item, then, when prompted, it asks me to select the paper from my entire library, instead of just prompting me to select the paper I'm currently on, or, better yet, just automatically using the parent paper that I've made the note in.
I also have no real clue how to actually access and use the built in templates.
    Have you found anything?
  • Ich schliesse mich den beiden Vorrednern an. Help please!
  • You bring up a point I was just looking for a solution for. Notes can't be created from the pdf. I don't understand how this software is supposed to save me time note-taking when I can't even create a note while reading a paper! The annotations are nice, and the commenting on them is nice, but I want to be able to quickly add a note as well. It seems like it would be easy for them to just add a "new note" button to the pdf viewer instead of having to back out each time and go into the collection!

You can click the '+' in the Notes section on the right pane to create notes both in Zotero natively way or using Better Note templates.

There are numerous templates in the BN notes community for your reference. https://github.com/windingwind/zotero-better-notes/discussions/categories/note-templates

Further, the Action and Tag plugin provides the feature to allow users to create notes using shortcut or automatically.

  • Okay I figured out the problem. If a note is open in the notes pane, you can't create a note that way. You have to back out of the currently open note, then the + button is visible and you can create a new note. You can also do so from the file menu. I'll have to look into the better notes documentation to see what these templates are all about as I'm not a programmer. Thank you for all your hard work on the plugins I see you are a designer on better notes; certainly is an improvement over the base program!

Yes, indeed. So Action and Tag plugins with BN templates can help us to create Notes with the note opening in the notes pane. But the learning cost is not high, you only need to spend some time understanding it, no programming ability is required, just copy and paste it easily.

BTW, I am not a designer, I am just a user.
