Moving Computers (Zotero, Google Drive)

Hi there,

I did encounter some issues when I tried to install Zotero on my new MacBook and would like to ask for your advice/help.

My old setup is Zotero 6.0.37 with a dedicated Google Drive for my files. I installed Zotero 7 and the Google Drive client on my new MacBook. Upon opening Zotero, I connected my account and synced, then I added the Google Drive folder as the Custom Directory. My library and folders all showed up but I cannot open any documents because the files cannot be found. How do I solve this issue? I appreciate your help!

Best,
C

So it sounds like your PDF attachment files are stored as "linked" PDFs in Google Drive ? But hopefully not your Zotero data folder, which you cannot do ...

It's not clear what you mean by "Custom Directory". That's not a Zotero thing. Were you using Zotfile under Zotero v6 (it has a "Custom Location" folder - the location where it saves linked PDF files) ? Since Zotfile does not work under Zotero v7, you would need to use Zotmoov or Attanger moving forward, to store *new* downloaded PDFs as linked files.

Can you open your existing PDFs from Google Drive on the new computer (outside Zotero) ? Do you have Google Drive set to mirror files (not stream/download only as necessary) ?

Is the path to the linked PDF files folder on Google Drive exactly the same as on your original computer ? (if not, do you have a Linked File Base Directory set in Zotero settings on *both* computers ? That tells Zotero where to look for PDFs if the paths are different on each computer).
