Some questions about Webdav, Zotfile + Onedrive

Hey everyone,

I've been using Zotero as my reference manager for years. Since the beginning, I’ve been using Zotfile and OneDrive to back up all my files. This worked fine as long as I only used my PC to access the files, but now that I've added an Android tablet to my workflow, things aren’t running as smoothly anymore.

I use the "Send to Tablet" function every time I want to work with a file on my tablet, but I frequently lose all my annotations when I send the file back to my PC. Additionally, sometimes I want to work with the annotations on my PC, but they’re locked in "read-only" mode.

I’m now planning to switch to local storage and use Koofr WebDAV for syncing. I have a few questions:

- Will the annotations made on PDFs be visible on my PC?
- Will the synced files act as a backup? I mean, if both my PC and tablet fail, will I still be able to retrieve the files from the server?
- Can or should I still use Zotfile to rename and organize files once I start using WebDAV?

I’ve read the documentation, but I’m not entirely sure about these points. And i’m open to any explanations on how to make Zotfile work properly with the "Send to Tablet" function. Am i doing something wrong?
  • Yes, annotations sync.
Sync can function as a backup, but since it is not versioned and, well, syncs, you shouldn't rely on it as your main Back-up (it won't protect against human error or someone hacking your account, e.g.). A regular backup of your entire HD is the way to go for that.

You can still use Zotfile/Zotmoov for renaming, but Zotero 7 has powerful renaming features built in, so you don't need to and probably shouldn't
