We're planning to support a distraction-free reading mode like Firefox's within the Zotero reader, so you can save a snapshot of the full page and then switch between the original and a simplified version within Zotero. But we'd want it to work with annotations, which makes it a much more complex technical problem. No timeline, but we're working on it.

@Abejellinek Thank you, that would be great, but wouldn't it be easier and cleaner if the unnecessary stuff isn't saved in the first place?

@tim820 Thanks for mansplaining this to me, I understand and use ad-blockers. If you actually look at journal publishers' websites, you'll see a lot of stuff that ad blockers don't filter because it comes from the publishers' themselves, like ads for their other books or journals or popups to subscribe to newsletters.

Many websites are just very cluttered, that is the reason why browsers have a reader view.

A lot of space is wasted with the subscribe popup at the bottom and the links. Compare this to the much cleaner reader views in Firefox:

This really isn’t worth arguing over. Obviously there are reasons other than ads that you’d want a distraction-free reading view. We’re working on it!
