Tag box not loading correctly on Zotero 7 annotations

edited December 12, 2024
Debug ID: D782792153
Issue: Tag box occasionally opens and closes rapidly when trying to add a tag on Zotero 7.
Effects: Makes it impossible to add tags to annotations.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Make an annotation on an open document.
2. In the annotation pane, select the specific annotation.
3. Select "Add tags".
System: MacOS 15.1.1 (Apple Silicon)
Zotero Version: 7.0.11-beta.9+0a6095322
Notes: Issue persisted upon window resizing, restarting the application, and moving windows around. The tag box itself is not selectable. The bug occurs across documents for me, but not universally on all annotations, though I haven't figured out why one annotation triggers it versus another.
Priority: Pretty low. This isn't breaking any of my workflows, but it did seem like an interesting bug that I thought I'd pass along.
  • Can you reproduce this in Troubleshooting Mode (Help → "Restart in Troubleshooting Mode…”), which temporarily disables all plugins?
  • Had a similar problem and couldn't find the reason for that (the Problem also occurred in the Troubleshooting Mode).

Today I realize something and maybe that's helping you too:

If the sidebar for the annotations is open, than the annotation in the sidebar needs to be in the upper half or so. If you want to tag directly on the annotation without the sidebar, than the annotation needs to be on the upper half of the window/frame.

    System: MacOS 15.0.1 (24A348) (Intel)
    Zotero Version 7.0.15
  • @joeythescientist: Are you running a window arrangement utility like Rectangle, Magnet, Amethyst, or yabai? Or using a second monitor?

@AbeJellinek Yes, I'm using Zotero on a second Monitor.

The bug is still there in Troubleshooting mode. Agreed with @Joeythescientist that the position of the annotation in the sidebar makes a difference--annotation tiles in the sidebar that are on the lower half of the screen exhibit the bug, but not the reverse. Also confirmed that the bug only occurs on a second monitor, not on my native Mac screen. I'm not running any kind of additional window arrangement utility.

    (sorry for the delayed response).
