Problem with syncing

Report ID : 1289979839.

When I opened Zotero I noticed there is a red exclamation mark next to the "sync" button on the Zotero desktop app (for Mac). I don't know how long it has been there for - I only just noticed it. I have recently moved my Zotero library from an old Mac laptop to a new one (both provided by my work).

When I clicked Sync it gave me the following message: "A file sync error occurred. Please try syncing again. If you receive this message repeatedly, restart Zotero and/or your computer and try again. If you continue to receive the message, submit an error report and post the Report ID to a new thread in the Zotero Forums."

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Zotero.
2. Click Sync button.
3. Red exclamation mark appears.
4. When I click on red exclamation mark it gives me the message noted above.

How did you move the files? There's a problem with the file permissions in your Zotero data directory. All folders and files need to be owned and writable by your user account. You can fix this from Get Info in Finder — ask your IT department if you're having trouble. (If they transferred the files for you, they did so incorrectly.)
  • Thank you. On my old comp, I moved my files from JurisM to Zotero about a month ago just using the "export library" function. (I am in the law field and have used JurisM for about two decades but began to worry it was not going to remain up to date).

When I got my new computer, the whole contents of the hard drive was shifted to it by IT.

I have used "Get info" and updated everything in my Zotero folder in Finder so that all users have Read & Write permissions.

The sync problem seems to have gone away now - so perhaps that has resolved the issue.

    Thank you!
