Zotero Word Issues (Word 365)

We are experiencing issues with Word 365 where the Zotero tab does not appear in Word. We've tried following the guidance and nothing appears to be resolving. Right off the bat, we have a policy that allows Macros to run, but only if Trusted by a Publisher. I was able to extract the cert from the Zotero.DOTM file and added this to the Trusted Store and this appears in Word as a Trusted Publisher.

The plugin has been reinstalled, the DOTM file is in the STARTUP location, and has full security permissions for SYSTEM and the User. The DOTM is active in Word, and can see the Trust Center shows the required values, as per the guide.

Is there possibly an issue with the Trusted Publisher requirement that may be causing it to not show? I'm unable to see otherwise why it wouldn't work as its been tested on another machine with identical settings and it worked fine. I did also notice that Zotero doesn't appear in the Word Add-Ins list?
  • If it doesn't appear in Word Add-Ins list then something about your Word configuration is not right. Is the Startup location set to the default one or are you using a custom one? Does it work if you use the default location? The simplest test to "reset" the configuration is to create a new Windows user account on the machine where the issue is observed and see if it works then.
  • Thanks for your reply - It is the default location (%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP). Macros are enabled (apart from requiring a Trusted Publisher) and the signing cert is in the Users Trusted Publisher Store. I'm wondering if it needed to be Local Machine instead?
  • Per-user should be enough. We'd recommend testing with a new user.
