Zotero not syncing to my laptop

My Zotero isn't syncing properly. The sync wheel goes for a 10-15 minutes and then stops. ..and things still aren't synced.

  • That message generally means what it says — security software on your computer may be interfering.

    You're running a version of Zotero from October. You should install the latest version from the Help → "Check for Updates…" or the download page and figure out why you haven't received automatic updates in months.

    If you're still having trouble after upgrading, provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup through the error, using the "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option.

    Also, is this an institutional computer?

  • That's it, thanks. It looks like a change we made in 7.0.14 causes downloads to fail if they take more than 30 seconds. You have some large files (e.g., a >500 MB file) that are taking longer than that.

    For now, you may want to set it to download files "as needed" in the Sync pane of the Zotero settings, which will at least allow you to download smaller files on-demand (and may allow large files to download just by virtue of their downloading one at a time).

    We'll release a 7.0.15 within a few days with a fix. Sorry for the trouble.
