Zotero 7 experiences lag in pdf scrolling compared to Zotero 6 on a 2018 Mac Mini.

I am using Mac Mini 2018,
CPU: 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5
GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
MacOS: 15.0.1 (24A348)

When using Zotero 7 to read PDFs, scrolling is extremely laggy, especially in dark mode (though it lags without dark mode as well). This issue doesn’t occur in Firefox or in Zotero 6.

My Zotero 7 setup has no plugins, and toggling layers.acceleration.disabled does not resolve the issue.

Update 10/29: I found that this issue is linked to CPU usage. With the same PDF and zoom level, Zotero 7 reaches up to 160% CPU usage when scrolling, while Firefox stays at around 40-50%. It appears Zotero 7 may have additional built-in plugins for PDF viewing compared to Firefox. Are there settings I can adjust to optimize this?

I updated the original post: the issue seems to be related to CPU usage. Waiting on any solutions for this
  • Hi, I'm also experiencing this issue on the Zotero 7 MacOS client.

It appears most significant when scrolling while the cursor is in motion. The lag is on the order of 5-7 seconds for a single flick of the scroll wheel (a few steps, scrolling about 2/3 of a page).

When the cursor is held perfectly still, the scroll is quick and relatively smooth.

I have not found any solution to this.

    I can confirm that.

I will just try to hold my mouse still while scrolling for now. Hope it will be fixed soon.
