Lost library - extract using Jurism?

edited August 22, 2024
I've discovered that my Zotero library was not synced after my laptop died. I still have plenty of word documents with live references, so I'm hoping I can pull most of those out to repopulate my library.

I've followed the instructions to try and extract citations using Juris-M. I think I've followed them correctly - I've set up a group library, synced to Juris-M and uninstalled Zotero. In my word doc, I can access the "restore inaccessible references" section in Document Preferences to select the group library. When I press ok and refresh, nothing happens? The usual refresh bar hovers for about 10 seconds, but no references appear in Jurism.

Is this a common issue? Can anyone suggest something else to try? I have thousands of references I want to try and extract without losing the link to my documents - if it worked this seemed like it would have been perfect.

Any help much appreciated!!
  • We can't help with Jurism, but we'll be rolling out a feature in Zotero soon — hopefully in the next month or two — that will let you restore citations from a document. If you can wait for that, that might be your best bet.

Otherwise, currently the only option we can recommend is Reference Extractor. That will let you, well, extract references created with Zotero and import them into Zotero, but the imported items will be new items that aren't linked to the existing documents.
  • Thanks dstillman! I wish my laptop had held on a bit longer... If there's a beta test coming out for that please let me know.
  • Sure, we will.

As it might come in handy to solve a current problem, please let me ask if there is any new development regarding this feature? Thanks!
