Zotero Connector: Proxy Scheme

Hello,

I'm relatively new to Zotero and have a question on configuring my university's proxy for Zotero Connector. As the IT department told me, my university's proxy does not have a proxy scheme, however, it seems like this is needed for configuring the proxy. Could anyone help me solve this issue?

Many thanks in advance!

Emily
  • I'm not sure what they mean by "does not have a proxy scheme". Can you give an example of a URL when you're viewing an article via your proxy? You can 'x' out your institution's domain if necessary.
  • Thanks for your answer.
Here is an example of a URL when I'm accessing an article via my university access to EBSCOhost: https://research.ebsco.com/c/j44w5g/search/details/pk56ace4in?db=psyh&limiters=None&q=mental illness stigma
And there is an example of a URL when I'm viewing an article via my university access on a publisher's website: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/jcop.23154 (not sure which of the two you meant).
To me it looks like my institution's domain is not part of the URL since on their website it says that the university's proxy is "proxy.uni-greifswald.de" (see https://rz.uni-greifswald.de/en/services/technical-infrastructure/vpn/proxy/)

That's just a network proxy server, not a web-based proxy that you log into through your browser. You configure it in your OS as in the video on that page, and there's nothing for Zotero to do.

What problem were you actually trying to solve?
  • OK, thanks for your help. I followed the video's instructions and managed to configure the proxy. However, I don't think it helped me solve my problem: I tried to configure the proxy for Zotero Connector in the first place because I assumed it would help me retrieve more PDFs for several references I had imported into Zotero. However, as the same problem still occurs when I'm directly connected to the university network rather than accessing it via VPN, I don't think it has anything to with the proxy setup.

No, the Zotero Connector proxy settings are for redirecting you through a web-based proxy when you access an unproxied URL. They wouldn't affect what gets saved.

If there's some specific problem, you should start a new thread and provide an example URL and a Debug ID from Zotero for a save attempt.
  • OK, so not being able to retrieve the full-text PDFs doesn't have anything to do with the Zotero Connector proxy settings?
  • OK, thanks.
