All citation styles have had their code deleted and I can't edit or reimport new ones

Report ID: 1734260231

I tried importing a new citationstyle in CSL format. The result was the the Modern Humanities Research Association style completely disappeared, and all of the other styles had their content deleted, so they are now just empty of code.

When I try importing styles from the online repository, I get the message that "An unknown error occured"

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start Zotero
2. In 'Settings' under 'Cite', 'Tools', 'Handel Formats', click any style and the code is completely empty.
3. Click 'Add a style from a file'

I get the message"An unknown error occured"

Please assist
  • To start, you're running the initial Zotero 7.0 release for some reason. You should upgrade to the latest version from Help → "Check for Updates…" and figure out why you haven't received updates in months. Did you disable automatic updates?
    [JavaScript Error: "Zotero.Utilities.xpathText(...) is null" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/style.js" line: 651}]
    Zotero.Style@chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/style.js:651:35
    Zotero.Styles</_readStylesFromDirectory<@chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/style.js:172:25
Was style did you install? A custom one or an official one from the styles page? If a custom one, can you email it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread? It's likely invalid in some way, but it also shouldn't break Zotero. (It's also possible we've fixed this since 7.0.)

You can then go to the 'styles' folder in your Zotero data directory, delete the file you imported, and restart Zotero

(To be clear, nothing was actually deleted. This is just some sort of error loading the style you installed.)
  • Thank you! I found the issue with the updating shortly thereafter, apparently auto-updating was turned off due to a security setting on my computer.

I have gotten everything back and running now!
