Citations in Word are something inbetween unlinked and linked ( Error code: 326384307)

I discovered that for some reason my citations got pseudo-unlinked. Basically, if I open my Word document and hower over a citation it behaves like regular text. In the past, it would have the citation pop up. If I however click on the seemingly unlinked citation and add/edit citation it shows me the citation pop-up (e.g. Müller, 2018). However, now to the very weird part, if I don't press enter before moving on to the next citation (even if I did not do anything) it will instead of (Rosenberg, 2010) show me the (Müller, 2018) citation when clicking on add edit citation to get the pop up. It is the case for old as well as new citations. I went to a librarian at my university that has extensive experience with Zotero and she never has seen something like this. Because usually if citations get unlinked (which could have happened as I share the document with my supervisor and he made comments) it leads to all citations being fully unlinked but my reference list is fully up to date and still updates when I add sources although they look as if they are unlinked otherwise. I am totally lost on why this happens but since it is my Master thesis I am afraid as well I can press on enter every time but it seems like something got "fucked up" and I don't want a ugly awakening in 2 months and having to do all references again. It is also extremeley annoying.
  • It doesn't sound like your citations are unlinked at all and none of this sounds actually unusual (the 'very weird part', unless I'm misunderstanding, is just that if you don't either escape or return the add citation dialog, it remains open with its last content.)
I don't think Word fields (what Zotero linked citations are) have ever had hover-over behavior (LibreOffice does).

It's not clear to me what actual operations are not working for you?
  • @Llebasi-13 This is normal Zotero behaviour. If you do not press Enter or Escape in the citation dialog, the next time you press any of the integration commands, be it Add/Edit Citation, Add/Edit Bibliography or any other, Zotero will instead focus your last opened citation interface. We will update this behaviour in the future such that Zotero will automatically close the existing interface (with a warning, if you have made changes) and open a new one.
