Persistent gray square brackets around text in Word with Zotero

Hello,

I'm having a display problem in Word with Zotero (I'm on a Mac). When I select text on my Word, grey square brackets appear around the text after a certain time or, for example, if I copy this text (by Cmd + V) and remain permanently displayed, even after deselection. I've attached a screenshot of the various stages to illustrate the problem.

I've tried several solutions without success:
- Deactivate "Fields with raster" in Word.
- Check Zotero options → Preferences → Cite.
- Refresh or hide fields with Cmd + F9 and Cmd + Option + Shift + U.

Do you have a solution to prevent these gray brackets from appearing or remove them without losing Zotero's functionality?

Thank you in advance for your help.

  • This is a longtime bug in Mac Word when using various system utilities that interact with the clipboard (e.g., clipboard managers). It's not related to Zotero — you can remove the Zotero plugin and you'd still see it. The brackets are Word bookmarks (Insert → Bookmark…).
  • Thank you very much for the information.
So if I understand correctly, I have to delete or change my clipboard manager (I do use this).
