The Update could not be installed (patch apply failed)-cannot upgrade to Zotero 7 for Mac

I keep getting an error message when I try to upgrade from Zotero 6. I tried from within the desktop application and on the web. I also closed the application and restarted the computer. I have a 2023 MacBook Pro running Sequoia. Any suggestions?
  • Just redownload Zotero from the download page. Your data won’t be affected.

Thanks but I also get an error: The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again.

It can't possible require that I do this for every file in my Zotero folders!!!

Should I not be selecting "replace" when trying to install 7?

Something happened to the permissions in your Applications folder. This doesn't have anything to do with Zotero specifically, but it's why Zotero couldn't apply its update. You'll need to figure out how to delete Zotero from Applications — correcting permissions as necessary — and reinstall from the download page. You should be able to fix the permissions on the application from Get Info in the Finder so that it's owned and writable by your OS account, but we can't provide general OS guidance here.

This doesn't have anything to do with your Zotero data. It's just the application in the Application folder.
  • I fixed the permissions and deleted the old version, and now it works! Thanks for your help.
