Nothing happens when dragging to My Publications

[Split from i cannot add new publication to 'My Publications']

Hey guys I'm glad to see someone else recently asked this question. I added my own publication to my library, but when I drag it as you suggested, nothing happens. What now?

I'd guess that you only have a standalone attachment rather than a regular item with metadata.

Right clicking does not present an option for Create Parent Item, as is suggested in that article. I originally added the article in question using the DOI. I'm at a loss for how to add metadata- everything seems to be there.

If you added the item by DOI then it's a regular item — you'd see an item type and normal metadata fields (title, authors, date, DOI, etc.) in the right-hand pane. That's the item you need to drag to My Publications.

If that's not working, provide a Debug ID for dragging.

Still nothing happens when I drag the item.

The directions on that page suggest there's something in the settings, but this is the only thing in the settings menu.

That's the web library, not Zotero—it does not support adding items to My Publications. Zotero is an app that you can download from https://www.zotero.org/download.

You should install the Zotero app, set up sync so that it matches what you see in the web library, and then, in the Zotero app, you should be able to add items to My Publications by dragging the item.

It’s not a “setup”. You’re just not actually using what people are talking about when they talk about “Zotero”.
