Submitted instead of published version

For some journals, Zotero using the Zotero browser connector automatically downloads the submitted instead of the published version despite the published version being accessible for me. Is there a way to let Zotero know that I prefer the published version in such circumstances?

For example, this just happened for me for this one:

https://doi.org/10.1111/phc3.12498
  • Agree that it would also be good to have an option to prevent the download of accepted versions (unless already possible). For us, these earlier versions are never useful. One researcher can easily police his/her usage and replace them, but this becomes messy quickly in groups.
  • @sdflewrit783 -- different issue; there are a bunch of threads about completely turning off the OA copy functionality that you can look at, but that's not what daniel.r is asking here.

@daniel.r -- Zotero will always prefer the publisher version when it can get it. If you're getting a submitted or accepted version, it's not able to download the publisher version. It should be able to do so in this case, though, and does for me. How are you adding the item to Zotero exactly?

  • I just click on the Zotero icon in the Firefox toolbar when I am on that page.
  • Could you provide a debug ID from both the connector and Zotero for doing that?

  • By the way, I also have problems with automatic proxying:

    Maybe that could be related?
  • Yes, very good chance it is -- the debug would likely show that definitely, but since the proxy is needed to provide access to the PDF, I'd almost be surprised if the two aren't related.
