In a two-column document, the annotations appear out of order (some changes depending on the reading order of the document). What can I do to make them appear in order?
@dstillman Not 2 column, but I have a document where this same behaviour is happening. It's a PDF of PowerPoint presentation slides, which I am highlighting in Zotero.
I'm using Page 61 as an example. To clarify, for the screenshots posted below I have marked up the screenshots in red on MS Paint for easier demonstration.
And they appear *above* the previous annotation in the Annotations sidebar.
If I highlight each part of this (I numbered the highlighted parts in red markup for the purposes of comparison to the sidebar) it seems the two lines at the top (number 1 and 2) end up (in order) at the bottom, and the rest of the bullet points are in order but somehow all end up above 1 and 2.
I was originally looking at the sidebar asking "Why can't I reorder these manually via click and drag so that they can be in the same order as the document?", before I realised that the annotations are actually intended to be in the order they appear in the document, however it seems like this doesn't always work.
I'm using Windows 11 (Build 26100.2894), Zotero 7.0.11 (64 bit), no extensions installed.
@joelmurphy Zotero preserves the existing character order in a PDF page. Some other viewers re-sort characters based on their visual position, while others, like Adobe Reader (you can try to select all text), do not. In theory, we could implement this behavior, but it might disrupt the text flow in PDFs where the order is already correct. Additionally, Zotero iOS and Android apps would also need to apply the same logic to ensure consistency.

I've uploaded it to Dropbox, hopefully it works:

First, I highlight the 2nd line on the slide, and as you can see all is okay so far:

Then, I highlight some bullet points further down:
