iOS highlighting/annotating suddenly got worse
I'll start by saying that this used to work perfectly, and only in recent versions (ie. early 2025) has something changed. I don't know if I was just enjoying a "bug" that happened to be Zotero's best feature or what, but the new version is killing my ability to read effectively.
In pen/draw mode, I used to be able to write notes with my Apple Pencil and **without changing modes** hold down on a piece of text with my finger and highlight it. Best of all, I could then make a comment on that highlight using Apple Ink. It was perfect. It felt like magic.
In recent versions of the app, though, pen mode no longer permits highlighting with your finger. You **have** to use the pen, so the only way to toggle back and forth between pen/draw mode and finger/select mode is to leave pen mode entirely, select your text, and then go back in to pen mode then draw mode. Four touches. I know it sounds silly, but this has devastated my ability to focus. Each time something I hit on an interesting passage I'm dealing with modes and buttons rather than just highlighting the passage. I've deleted the app, tried re-installing it, all to no avail.
Please re-instate what you had before!

mvasilakHey @nlfn, this change is due to a recent update of an integral 3rd party library. We'll contact them to see if this functionality can be restored, and let you know.

nlfn@mvasilak Thank you so much! I (and I assume many others) would really appreciate it.
