[Android] feature requests

I just got the Android app and have been playing with it for a short bit. It looks like a great start!

Feature requests:
#1: a share intent. I expected to be able to share from my browser and be able to add to zotero that way, and am very surprised this isn't here. In this flow I'd expect to also be able to pick collection(s) and tags to add the item to. (and ideally that would create a snapshot too)

Other features I couldn't find, albeit less important
#2: how to add tags. I figured out how to filter by tags, but adding tags seems to be entirely missing.
#3: for html pages, opening the page doesn't seem to restore me to my last position in the page - whether the page opens in the browser or as a snapshot. This is fine for shorter pages, but for long pages I probably won't read in one sitting it means I'll have to figure out where I left off
  • The first post of the android beta announcement, here: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/110371/available-for-beta-testing-zotero-for-android/p1
    says:
    "Not yet implemented:

    Saving from the browser
Adding items via identifier or barcode scanning"

So number 1 on your list is planned and will come at some point.
  • Yup I saw that. I'm hoping that by saying I want it or gives a little more signal they should do it sooner rather than later. If there was an issue tracker I'd happily jump over to it and vote for the appropriate ticket.

Unfortunately, unlike iOS, Android (at least as far as we can tell) doesn't provide a way for us to pass the current loaded webpage via the share functionality, just the URL, which means that any site that requires authentication/cookies either wouldn't work at all or wouldn't download files. We don't think that would create an acceptable experience, so for now we're not offering saving of webpages from the browser.

We're going to look into offering a version of the Zotero Connector for some browsers (e.g., Firefox for Android), which would allow saving direct to the server, but we don't yet know how well that will work. (And it won't work in Chrome or other browsers that don't support extensions.)

We also already support adding by identifier, and we'll soon support metadata retrieval for PDFs, so it will be possible to save PDFs and create parent items that way.
#2: how to add tags. I figured out how to filter by tags, but adding tags seems to be entirely missing.
That's the same as on the desktop — from the item details pane. It's not currently possible to tag multiple items at once in the app.
#3: for html pages, opening the page doesn't seem to restore me to my last position in the page
That's a feature of the reader, and the mobile apps don't yet support EPUBs/snapshots in the reader.
