How to grant Zotero permissions to edit google docs

I think I missed checking a box when I was originally prompted, and now I can't add any citations to google docs from either Chrome or Safari. Is there anyway I can grant it permission now? I've tried deleting Zotero, quitting the app, removing the extension, quitting my browser, but it still just takes me to the app when I click "Add/edit citation"
  • There was another report on this, but no follow-up from the OP. Could you read the request posted at the end of the other thread by adomasven and post the ID here?
  • I restarted the browser, and tried to get the debug ID from the preferences tab in google docs, but it does the same thing as when I try to get add a citation, and just opens the Zotero window application, but doesn't prompt anything. I wasn't offered anything related to a Debug ID.
  • I tried in both safari and Chrome, and it does the same thing.
  • Ok sorry I misunderstood.

    The Debug ID is D336108553
  • I could only get it to work for chrome but hopefully that helps with safari too.
  • If you restart Zotero and your browser and reload Google Docs, and then try to use the plugin, it should prompt you again. Are you saying that doesn't happen?
  • No, it doesn't as far as I can tell. I've tried a lot, with different combinations of quitting and restarting. When I deleted the app and redownloaded it, it prompted me to login, but then when I did, it told me it didn't have permissions and to try to login into a different Zotero, but then didn't offer that option and went back to just doing nothing and taking me to the app.

Wait, what do you mean by this? The prompt is a prompt from Google about a Google account. It doesn't have anything to do with a Zotero account. You have to grant the requested permission to the Google account you used to create the document (which might now require checking one or two checkboxes).

There's currently a bug that's preventing the permissions dialog from being shown a second time without restarting the app and browser, but that's only relevant if you fail to give it permission (or choose the wrong Google account) when it first appears, and it sounds like it's appearing correctly.
  • Yes, I think I'm dealing with the bug for failing to give it permission when it first appears, but I can't get it to appear again. I thought by redownloading it I could get it to, but it instead prompted me to login, which I did, and then it didn't give me the login screen from before, and it told me that that account like didn't have access to Zotero or it didn't have permissions, and that I should try a different account? I know it was the right email. Sorry I didn't take screenshots or anything. Maybe I can try it again. But I think I'm part of the bug you described .

But what do you mean by "it instead prompted me to login, which I did"? The only prompt here is a permissions prompt from Google to access the document.

Again, the bug here is purely about seeing the same dialog within a Zotero session. Restarting Zotero and your browser should let you try again.
  • Ok, thank for the clarification! It is working now, at least on Safari. I think I was choosing the wrong account, as I thought my google account was my login in for Zotero, but instead it was seeking permission for my current google account, not the one linked with my Zotero. Apologies for the confusion. Thanks for the help.
  • (Sorry, I may have lead to some misunderstanding too)
