Disable Automatic Link Attachment when saving with Connector

Hello,

every time I save an item from e.g. Amazon Zotero (7.0.11 running locally on Linux) creates a Link Attachment which I then have to manually remove. I scoured the options thoroughly, both of Zotero and of Connector and I cannot see how to disable this feature.

Any tips?

Thanks,
Philipp
  • There is no way to disable that. Could you say why you want them removed? Link attachments don't take up any space
  • Thanks for your reply. Primarily I don't like them because if I don't remove them I cannot distinguish between items that have informative attachments and those that just have these links attached to them. Also not all sites create them: amazon does, but philpapers, which I use often, doesn't. Would it be hard to add an option to disable the feature?

Not sure what you mean by this. Items with attachments show an attachment (e.g., PDF) icon in the Attachments column. Links don't show anything in that column.
  • See screenshot. Both items show the > on the left, indicating that there's something 'under' the item. In the first case it's a note I added to the item and this note contains some important information about the item (that's what I meant by 'informative'). The other item just contains the automatically generated link-attachment.

I often find myself in the situation that I search for an item and go like 'oh, there's an important note regarding this item' and then it's just the amazon link that was added automatically...

  • I mean, that's just a disclosure triangle — that's not something you should be relying on to determine whether there's something important under an item. As I say, the Attachments column shows whether there's an attachment, and you can add the Notes column if you want to see how many notes there are.
  • Well, but the point I'm trying to make is that the disclosure triangle is suggestive. I thank you for pointing out other ways of discriminating between different additions to an item, but I still feel that as a matter of UX it would be better to give users the options whether they want automatic URL attachments or not. I guess I just file this as feature request on Github.

    Thanks everyone for your input!
