iPad: Unable to display document - the security scheme of this document is currently not supported

I’m getting this error message for 90% of my library this morning. I was able to open and view the pdfs on my last login a couple of days ago.

This morning I’ve had the issue with Zotero crashing and then not opening. I think I’ve resolved that with the advice from other forum posts on the subject as I can open and read the one pdf that’s working.

Screenshot of error message attached. I’ve tried searching on the forum and google but haven’t found anything based on the error message - I don’t know how else to describe it!

Any help much appreciated.

    (Also, I know you provided a screenshot, but be sure to put "iOS" or "iPad" in the thread title when referring to the iOS app, or people will assume your thread is about the desktop app. I've added it.)

  • Hey @gemsfharvey, can you please try the following, and let us know if it changes the outcome:
    - If you use a specific network to access the internet, can you try on another one?
    - If this doesn't happen for all your library, can you mail 1-2 of the documents that show this error to support@zotero.org and mention this thread?
    - Do you have another device, where you can freshly install Zotero, and check if the problem appears there as well? If you don't have another device, but you have synced all your previous changes in the one you are using, can you sign out and sign in again, and check if the problem still appears?

    - I tried a different internet network, same error message.
    - I have emailed 2 x documents to support
    - I don't have another device, so I signed out and signed back in but I'm still getting the error message.

    I can view and annotate the pdfs on my Mac, just not on my iPad.

  • Thanks for sending us those PDFs. It looks like those PDFs have a specific issue and the library we use on iOS has a problem with it, while desktop displays it fine. We'll report this and hopefully have a solution soon.
  • Hi again, did you extract the documents, that you sent us in email, from our desktop or iOS app?

    You mentioned, that all of those documents worked fine on iOS some time ago and they only stopped working recently? Did you maybe update the app in the meanwhile or did anything change? Do you remember where you got those documents?
