The plugin is mostly finished, but there are some issues on Word Online editor's side that we are working through with Microsoft. As this requires some back-and-forth and unclear when all issues can be cleared up we cannot give a release timeline.
Some of us are locked into MS word 365 by our institutions and need to be able to collaborate in the online, browser based version. I see Mendelay has an add-on for that, so can we please have a Zotero one? I know it's a non-profit fuelled by people volunteering their time, so this is just me asking nicely. I wish I had the skills to make the contribution myself.
I must humbly apologize as I probe once more... if there are any updates on Zotero on Word Online. Also, is there any link on GitHub (like an issue) or another way we can all follow along without asking each time?
Here's another +1 to Zotero support for Word on-line. In many cross-organizational setups with strict security rules, external collaborators are restricted from opening the shared document in their desktop app and can only use Word on-line. This makes it nearly impossible for external collaborators to use Zotero in these documents. Thanks!
We are eagerly waiting for this as well. If there's anyway or anyone we would could appeal to at Microsoft I'm more than happy to gather the troops to stress our need for this.
Mendeley's Word plugin has thousands of negative reviews. Our goal is to create a version that actually works well.
(Also, Zotero is not primarily developed by volunteers.)

Even a beta testing option... @adomasven @dstillman
