Hi! I’m new to Zotero and need it for conducting a literature review for my thesis. I’m working on a shared Word document via OneDrive, and my thesis partner has already used Zotero to group and cite sources in the document. However, I’m unable to see these references or the sources list in the document. I first downloaded the Zotero Connector for Google Chrome, but I still couldn’t access the references. After that, I installed Zotero for Mac, yet the issue persists. What do I need to do to properly set up Zotero so I can view and edit the references already used in the document?
If the cited items are currently in your colleague's personal library rather than a Group library, those items would need to to be copied to the Group library by your colleague. Then the citations in the document would have to replaced with the ones from the Group. Personal library items and Group library items are different.

In short, you must have access to a Group library with those references - synced to your own computer - in order to fully access/edit those references in a word processor document created by another Group member. Access to a document that simply uses those references is not enough, since those references are (presumably) from your colleague's personal Zotero library.
Fully collaborating on a document thus ideally requires some pre-planning.
If you just wanted to extract the references into your own library and the document is a Word docx file, you could just use Reference Extractor. But that wouldn't allow you to fully share/edit citations in that document - that requires a Group.
