Zotero-deb 7.0.11 Installation Wont Open PDFs Using System's Default Application

edited 10 days ago
I was using the Snap installation of Zotero, but because it has been pointed out in the forums that this was buggy, I installed a new instance using Zotero-deb as suggested and this does not opens the pdfs with Okular that is the program configured as the system default application. My Snap installation of Zotero opens pdfs with my default application without problems.

How can I fix this?
  • Did you change the setting in Zotero's preferences (under "General", "Open PDFs using...")?
  • Hi samvimes. Yes, it is configured to: "System Default".
  • Hi dstillman

Zotero with System Default configured opens the PDFs with Evince. The file manager (Nautilus) opens PDfs with Okular and the file associations configured with "Open With" > Default Application is set up to Okular.

I followed that link, didn't had a defaults.list file but I followed the instructions to create one and nothing changed. Zotero keeps opening PDFs with Evince.

Does it matters if Okular is installed with Snap? Maybe default.list needs a different content because Okular is a Snap package?
  • As it says there, if you're having trouble, the easiest option is to just pick a specific reader from the menu in the Zotero settings. This isn't something we can help debug on Linux — too many things can influence file handling.
  • Thank you.

I tried that before but I couldn't locate where Snap's executable were located so I looked for this again.

For anyone interested Snap executables are under:

(root)/snap/bin/ so setting Zotero to snap/bin/okular does it.
