Page deleted on one device still appears on another device

I use Zotero across multiple devices, which include a Windows PC, an iPad, and an Android phone. On my iPad, I was looking at an older paper PDF today that I had made annotations on, and I noticed all my annotations were messed up as if they had skipped a page and been moved to the previous one. I checked the PDF on my Windows machine and the annotations are in their correct position.

However, what I noticed was that the cover page that I had deleted from the PDF still appears on the iPad app, as well as on my Android phone. This is causing the annotations on page "X" on my PC to appear on page "X-1" on any of the portable devices. I use Koofr WebDAV to sync my files across devices, and no matter how many times I try to remove the file from local storage on any of my portable devices, the cover page is still there when I redownload the file. What is causing this behavior? Are there any possible fixes?

The question is whether the desktop version of Zotero isn’t syncing the file to the WebDAV server, or if the iOS app isn’t syncing it from the server.

Can you also provide a Debug ID for it happening?

  • As I needed the paper, I ended up manually exporting the PDF with annotations from my Windows machine and then reimporting the PDF back into Zotero as a new entry. I am not sure if I will be able to reproduce the issue now.

I tried recreating the scenario with the same file for a new import by deleting the cover page, but it seems to be syncing normally across the devices now, i.e., the deleted page doesn't appear on any other device. Unfortunately, I do not have any logs for past activity.

I am not sure what was causing this in the first place. In the case earlier, I could definitely see any new annotations being synced across devices. For the file itself, I cannot confirm whether my Windows machine was having an issue with just one file because I constantly add new entries to my Zotero selection, and there have been no sync issues or even warnings.
