Zotero LibreOffice toolbar disappears

Dear all,

I struggle a bit with LibreOffice integration.
I use Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS. I installed Zotero 7.0.10 today.
The automatic LibreOffice plugin install did not work ("installation could not be completed because an error occured") so I manually installed the plugin by double-clicking on Zotero_LibreOffice_Integration.oxt

However, every time I close and restart Zotero and LibreOffice, the toolbar disappears. More specifically:
- If I close LibreOffice while Zotero is running and reopen LibreOffice the toolbar is still there and working.
- However when I close Zotero, close LibreOffice and reopen LibreOffice, the toolbar is still there. But if I reopen Zotero, the toolbar is unable to communicate with it : nothing happens when clicking on the buttons.
- And at this step when I close Zotero and LibreOffice and then reopen LibreOffice, the toolbar is gone!

My guess is that every time I launch Zotero it does try to install the plugin and fails, but this removes my manual install. However I am not sure that this is what really happens and, most importantly, I did not find a way to fix it.

Would anyone have an idea to solve the issue?

Many thanks!

What's the full version of LibreOffice that you are running? Could you create a Debug ID from Zotero for a restart? If you go into Zotero Preferences -> Advanced -> Config Editor and change the extensions.zoteroOpenOfficeIntegration.skipInstallation preference to true it should fix itself, but we'd rather figure out why automatic installation doesn't work.
  • Hi,
    Thank you for your answer.

    1. The version of LibreOffice I am using:
    Version: 24.2.6.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
    Build ID: 420(Build:2)
CPU threads: 12; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
    Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); UI: en-US
    Ubuntu package version: 4:24.2.6-0ubuntu0.24.04.1
    Calc: threaded

    2. The debug ID is: D1510932970

    3. I do confirm that changing the extensions.zoteroOpenOfficeIntegration.skipInstallation preference to true fixes the problem. So while this is probably not the optimal solution this is a nice workaround.

Thank you very much for your time and efforts.
  • Is there any chance that there's a previous incompletely uninstalled version of LibreOffice on this machine? Does it help if you reinstall the LibreOffice package?
