the style is American Chemical Society. It is in a new empty document.
The reference "Coa et al." is the same item in my library, as I picked it from the already cited item from the options that popped up.
I tried to delete the Chicago style the error message showed up, the picture is in the link

You should never "delete" references by hand if you try to change a style. Just change a style, then "refresh".
If anything, you delete the citations (in your case the footnote numbers) in the main text, and then the references in the footnotes would disappear.
1. Delete the ACS bibliography
2. Switch back to Chicago Manual and OK
3. Switch back to ACS style and OK -- the foonotes (now in grey) should disappear
4. Move your cursor to the end of the document (out of the footer) and click "Add Bibliography"
Thanks for the directions, it is almost resolved. There is a small Chicago-style leftover of "1 1", can we get rid of that?

At the very beginning when I started I changed the numbers in Chicago style to 1,2,3 because it was i, ii, iii. If you could tell me how to get it back to i,ii,iii I think this will solve the issue.
