Synchronization problem after import

Hi,

I am currently importing RIS-files into the Zotero-app but the app keeps blocking and does not want to synchronize with the online library. It keeps saying "preparing synchronization" but has not synchronized for over three days. I've tried the troubleshooting mode a couple of times - but without luck. Our rapportID is 369869527. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
  • How many items in the library?

If you tried to import multiple times and have deleted large sets of items, make sure you've emptied the trash.

around 50.000, but 300.000 in the trash. I've wanted to start cleaning up the trash but since the app is not syncing and blocked, i cannot seem to delete these. The app hasn't been working in a couple of days.

I've managed to delete the items from the trash but the library still won't sync.

What exactly is happening now? If you deleted all 300,000 items at once, there could be a delay at startup while Zotero cleans up the database.
  • The app blocks, i'm not able to search items, i cannot click on another map (the app blocks on the map on which it opens),... It keeps saying: preparing synchronization. This is the report ID :1791781491.

If it is indeed cleaning up the database, how could I see the progress? The web library still has all the 300.000 items in the trash.
  • Can you provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) for reproducing this?
  • Yes, this is the Debug ID: D332845201. I would also like to email you about a one time large RIS-import that is difficult for us to perform. Zotero is an important part of the renewal of our database website and we don't know if we can upload it ourselves since it has been taking quite some time and there is still a lot of items to be imported.
  • That Debug ID doesn't show you actually doing anything. Can you provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup through reproducing this problem, using the "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option?
  • Sorry, my bad. I just open the app and it says "preparing sync" but this is already where the problem starts. So i've disabled automatic sync and restarted Zotero and clicked the sync button. This is the Debug ID I get: D1657526565. If i disable automatic sync, I always get a timeout after some minutes: "Transaction timeout, most likely caused by unresolved pending work.".
  • Earlier this week it worked well, but now I have the same problem again - even though i did not import anything.
  • @dstillman do you think this is a general problem or what could be the cause of this problem?
  • @dstillman we're still experiencing this problem. This is the start-up debug id: D1948798066. Would it be possible to look into this? We're really stuck and do not know how to proceed further with our project. Thanks in advace
  • We'll look into this, but you can try temporarily turning off auto-sync and letting Zotero run for a while — even overnight — without doing anything, and only then trying to sync. Zotero is performing some cleanup at startup, and because of the huge numbers of items you deleted, that seems to be taking a long time and is interfering with syncing. But it should only need to do this once.
  • Thank you for looking into this! We're currently turning off the auto-sync and letting Zotero run for a while. Thanks.
