Red search bar won't pop up for citations

I am trying out Zotero for the first time, I installed the extension and I have the app running yet when I try to cite, it opens up the zotero app instead. When I click on the study I want to cite all it does is plop down something like - (1). How do I get the red bar to pop up? If it is helpful I have also gone into preferences and ticked off use classic Add Citation dialog.

    Make sure the citation dialog isn't just appearing behind your other windows. That's the most likely thing here.

    If you're sure it's not that, we would want a Debug ID for reproducing this after restarting Zotero.

    It actually did pop up a couple times alongside the Zotero app except it wouldn't let me type anything, it was just a solid red bar. I retried a couple more times and the red bar has now completely disappeared. Here is the debug ID: D934828475

    The Debug ID looks here like you successfully inserted a citation with the classic citation dialog. Does it work in a new document? If you restart you Mac? Was "Use classic Add Citation dialog" unticked when you produced this Debug ID?

    That's odd, I had to go through the Zotero app to select a study, the citation was placed correctly but the red bar is nowhere to be seen. I tried restarting and I have also attempted using in google docs and word with no success. Classic Add Citation dialog was ticked when I produced this ID.

    I think you are confused. The classic citation dialog looks very similar to the main Zotero window. If you have the preference ticked, you will get it, instead of the red bar. If you want to get the red bar, untick the preference and restart Zotero.

    You are absolutely correct, I had it unticked on my first attempt and it hadn't worked then so I assumed it had to be ticked for the red bar to show up. Tried it just now after rebooting everything and it worked! Thanks for the help
