Error in making notes in another language other than English

ID: 96143027

Hi! I think there is a significant error whenever trying to add a note (in any form; underline, text box, etc.) the note box prohibits me from writing in another language except for English.

For example, I can definitely write down all things in English, but it bothers me a lot when I try to type any Korean letters. I can't put any letter in the note in Korean, but sometimes I can if I delete the note and generate a new one.

I am using Zotero in the Windows app, and I've also tried to change the language setting in Zotero but still it kept happening. Can you please advise how I can deal with this?
  • What input method are you using? Can you provide exact steps to reproduce this?

Hi, this is Bridget from South Korea again, the one who created this discussion. I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner!

There is no error message for this problem. Whenever I try to create a new annotation, it always happens. I can freely write the remark(annotation) in English, but it doesn't work in Korean at all or only allows me to do so sometimes, very randomly. I've found that the annotation is not activated when I try to make annotations in Korean. https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u15355459/dszh3ikq0yp4otepqqbo.png

Also, there was no difference when I changed the language setting in Zotero between English and Korean. Whichever language in Zotero is set as the same issue occurs.

As an input, I usually work on Zotero on my laptop in Windows 11 Home, with the Microsoft IME language pack for Korean. I'm not sure if this is the thing you wanted to know in terms of input; Otherwise, you can also connect me via Teamviewer, etc. https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u15355459/re5pgl2mhzl7px1o7gzm.png

Also, I've recorded my laptop screen to show you the problem, so please contact me via [email address removed] if you want to check.

Also, I've found that there was a similar discussion case with me a year ago; please check this link. (*But this seems not to be solved, too) For me, it is only annotation; tags are available in Korean. I can add them in Korean and erase them too! https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/108328/cannot-add-tags-to-annotation-with-korean

I really love Zotero, but this bothers me a lot; please give me support! Thanks.

    Regards,
    Bridget

Those screenshots didn't come through, but you can send a screen recording to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.

    @dstillman,
Just sent the screen recording as well as the screenshot images(I have no idea why it didn't work tho) from my email address ygna0512@gmail.com to your team. Please check! I also mentioned a link to this discussion. Thanks.
  • @ygna0512 Does the issue occur when typing in other fields within the Zotero client, such as the search field in the Zotero library tab?
  • @martynas_b Hi, I'm not very sure if I got your question very well.
For example, it doesn't occur when I change the names or profiles of the article or research paper; in Zotero Library. Neither creating a folder or subfolder. Not in tags, too. I think it only occurs in annotations field.
  • @martynas_b @dstillman Hi, is there any update?
  • @ygna0512 Can you also test if you have this problem in Zotero notes?
