Note Annotations: Zotero Search and Zotero PDF Viewer Search

Dear all,
Sadly, neither the Zotero Search ("All Fields & Tags") nor the Zotero's PDF viewer's search are able to look for things written in Note Annotations. Did I miss a setting that might enable this? I haven't found one.

How to reproduce?
Open a PDF in Zotero, put a Note Annotation and write some text X in it. Search for X in either the PDF search or Zotero search and you won't find the text resp. the PDF listed.

Thanks a lot for your help!

The reader's search only matches content.

To match note annotations, you currently have to switch to Everything mode, but we'll match those in All Fields & Tags mode (like regular notes) in the next version.

To be clear, these will currently match the parent attachment. Once annotations appear directly in the items list, it will match those directly.
  • Oh wow, I was not aware of the "Everything" mode. Thanks for clarifying! Makes sense to also match them in "All Fields & Tags".

I guess there is no way to match directly the position (e.g., a Note Annotation), and upon opening the PDF, one will be guided to this position immediately?
  • No, because it's only matching attachments. When annotations are shown directly in the items list, double-clicking them will focus them in the document.
  • In Zotero 7.0.9, annotation text and comments are now matched in All Fields & Tags mode as well.
