Bug - new Zotero extension breaks Imprivata secure sign-in on MS Edge and Chrome

Hi - I work in healthcare research. We are a MS365/Office shop for all our tools (email, etc). We use Imprivata for secure sign-in to the MS sites.
After installing new Zotero, the Imprivata sign-in process was broken - specifically, the signal from the phone when I approved sign-in did not get transmitted to the MS site to allow me in. Switching to Chrome (with the extension) did not solve this, but curiously, the extension on Firefox did not cause this behavior.
(I did reset Edge and systematically add back my core extensions - Raindrop.io and 1Password, then Zotero, and tested at each step, and adding back the new Zotero extension caused the break, though admittedly, I only added it back on top of Raindrop and 1pass).
Would love to see this fixed (or if there's something I'm overlooking) - or I'll probably need to switch Ref Mgmt software - I have to fight to have Zotero on my workstation as it is.
  • Does it start working if you disable Zotero Connector and restart Edge or Chrome? If it does, could you contact Imprivita about it and have them reach out to support@zotero.org?
  • I uninstalled Zotero connector before it would work. I think I tried disabling first, and it didn't work, but I wouldn't swear to it. It's been a journey trying to figure it out.
It worked ok under the previous version, then broke with the Zotero upgrade.
Just curious, why would Imprivata, a large auth provider, be incentivized to reach out to a company that introduced a problem with how their software works?
Not to mention that I don't have that sort of pull with Imprivata, being very much an end user....
  • Does it help if you install the Zotero Connector into Edge from the Edge Extension store (not Chrome Extension store)?
  • I had installed it using the Edge extension store.
A colleague, I just learned, is having the same issue on Chrome with the Chrome store extension.
  • Could you submit a Debug ID from the Zotero Connector for an attempt to sign in into Imprivita that fails?
  • Bug ID: D763253879
    thanks

@johneplingmd Could you go into Zotero Connector Extension Options -> Advanced -> Config Editor, find the entry named translateBlocklist and change its content to
    ["^lastpass.com/vault","^help.rootsmagic.com/","^mail.one.com/","^impr1.co/"]
and see if the issue is fixed?
  • Hi @adomasven - thanks for sticking in there with me.
Did what you suggested above a couple of separate times to make sure I had it right. Neither time worked.
And, both times, when I disabled the extension (without restarting, etc) the sign-in worked immediately.
Sorry -happy to try other ideas.
  • Could you produce a Debug ID for the attempt to login with the config changed as described above?
  • @adomasven,

Sorry, should have thought of that.
    Debug ID D1549611493

    thanks
  • We've deployed a fix for Edge and Chrome that should address this. Update to the latest version and let us know if you still see the issue.
  • Phew! It works!
@adomsven - thanks very much - I really didn't want to switch from Zotero!
