error message when using Chicago style

I get an error message ever time I try to add a new footnote using Chicago Full Note. It does eventually add it but won't let me add the bibliography. i had tried all the troubleshooting suggestions including uninstalling both Zotero and word and all the associated files but it doesn't fix it. I am working on a thesis and this is a huge problem. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
  • What's the error message?
    Does this work without the error in a new document?
  • it doesn't work in any document but it seems to just be the Chicago style as others work fine. I also tried logging in on a different computer and it worked fine there so would appear to be something on my computer. The error message is: "Zotero experienced an error updating your document. Would you like to view troubleshooting instructions?"
  • Try "Reset Styles" in the advanced tab of the Zotero preferences (note this will remove any custom styles you have). If that doesn't work, provide an error report ID from Zotero for the error as triggered in a new document.

    https://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_problems#provide_a_report_id
  • that didn't work. Here's the error code and information

    [JavaScript Error: "The range cannot be deleted. [setText:y:\zotero\word-for-windows-integration\build\zoterowinwordintegration\field.cpp]"]

    appName => Zotero, version => 7.0.8 (x64), os => Windows 11 22631, locale => en-US, extensions =>

  • Two random things to check:

    1. Do you have track changes enabled? If so, try disabling it.
    2. In Word Options → Advanced make sure “Typing replaces selected text” is checked.
  • happy to say, the second one worked!! thank you so much!
