[report id 707502343]Zotero 7, linked attachment not clickable

edited October 7, 2024
Hi Zotero community!

I updated my zotero to 7 yesterday. Everything works just fine but I cannot click on some paper entries that not contain downloaded files from the cloud storage. In other words, I have these paper entries long ago and stored in another computer.

Has anybody got the same issue? Is there a quick fix and or any plugin to re-link the attachment to the cloud storage?

Below are the settings for PDF cloud storage address.

All I want is simply if I want to access one entry on the cloud storage, I can click on it and then download the one from the cloud storage.

Thanks a lot,
Sihao

You're using linked files, and the file you're trying to open doesn't exist on your computer, so Zotero can't open it.

You don't say what cloud storage service this is, but I think this is OneDrive? When you open a file from File Explorer, Windows will download it automatically, but all Zotero knows is that the file doesn't exist on the computer.

Years ago, we did actually add a feature to the Mac version of Zotero that automatically triggers a download from iCloud Drive for an evicted file. I suspect implementing the same for OneDrive would be more difficult, but if someone wants to try to implement this in a reasonable way, we'd accept a patch.

(Needless to say, stored files in Zotero Storage do this automatically when Zotero is set to download files "as needed".)

If it is Onedrive, you could also presumably set Onedrive to download all files locally, instead of on-demand download.
  • I did find in another computer when i downloaded all files to the local disk, the zotero will suggest to relink those missing attachment links.

I guess the easiest way would be downloading all locally.

Your explanations definitely help me understand this problem clearer.

    Thank you both.
