please add hover feature to the filename field

Please add the hover feature to the filename field, or expand the field so users can see the entire file title.

Often I add/change an author/editor or date after I drag the file to the item, and I have to to check whether I need to rename the file so I can find it in the file system outside of Zotero.

With the file title now separate from filename, the only way to view the filename is in the attachment info tab. But the field is too small to see the entire filename. I have to put the cursor in the field and left-arrow slowly to see the rest of it while the beginning of the filename disappears from view. Or, I have to use "show in finder" feature for the file to see the filename--I have to go outside of Zotero to view a field in Zotero in its entirety.

Filename is an important bit of information in Zotero and it deserves the same respect as file title. I can see the full file title on hover in the list view so I should be able to see the full filename on hover in the right pane.

Thank you.
  • The filename should be displayed completely in the latest version of Zotero 7:

Which version of Zotero are you using?

I am using 7.0. Is this feature still in beta? Great news though!
  • The latest version is 7.0.5 for Windows and Linux, 7.0.6 for MacOS:

  • Ah ok. I thought I had automatic updates, but I guess not--will have to check my settings. Thank you.
  • Well, Zotero is supposed to check periodically for updates but it haven't been at all since I installed 7.0. And when I opened About Zotero, it did not tell me whether I have the latest version, so I assumed mine was the latest. Maybe this is a bug?
  • What's the value of app.update.auto in the Config Editor?
  • That should auto-update, unless you haven’t actually restarted Zotero since you installed 7.0.
  • I've restarted several times for sure. Could this be new permissions restrictions of Sequoia 15.0? I've got several weird messages since I installed it.
  • No, wouldn't be related to Sequoia. (Sequoia only came out last week, and Zotero 7.0.6 includes a change that provides context for the only permissions prompt in Sequoia that Zotero itself triggers, during Word plugin installation.)
  • In any case, could be some other pref that you (or a plugin you installed) changed. You can look at all the app.update prefs to see if anything looks off.

I can't understand what these preferences do :( Here are all app.update settings that are in bold--anything looks weird to you? Thank you for helping!

  • No, those are all normal (though you can delete app.update.backgroundErrors — that's not valid anymore). You can see if future updates are applied automatically.
  • Thanks! I'll see what happens with the next update.
