Files changed from Storage to Linked reverting to Storage on Sync

Hi
The new Zotero looks great! Well done.
I've reached my storage limit and to address this I've turned some very large 'Storage' files into Linked files (moving them to a new directory on my computer, and then deleting the stored file in the 'storage' directory and moving the 'child' to the bin). However, when I sync, the old storage files are recreated in the 'storage' directory, and so my attempt to reduce my storage has been foiled.
Can you advise?
Thanks

All you really needed to do was change the *existing* large attachment files in local Zotero storage to linked files and then make sure you are synced. That change would most easily be done with Zotmoov or attanger (the Zotfile-like plugins compatible with Zotero v7). You just right click and select the option to move them as linked files (to the folder you define in their settings). You can disable the plugin after you've done that (the files' new locations are stored in the Zotero database). The files will disappear from online storage too when synced, since linked files are not synced by Zotero. If those files were large enough, it would bring you under your online file storage quota.

  • Thank you very much!
The problem was that even though I'd deleted the files, they were still in Trash, and hence on synching they were recreated. Permanently deleting the trash sorted out the problem.
    Thanks again.
