[Feature Request] Integrating the Google Scholar API in the PDF reader

Hi, Is it possible to integrate this Chrome extension (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/google-scholar-pdf-reader/dahenjhkoodjbpjheillcadbppiidmhp) in the Zotero PDF reader.
  • that would be excellent. The new reader is really nice at least the citation links are really cool!
  • I highly recommend it. The reader is extremely useful!
  • +1, the new google scholar pdf reader is very useful
  • That will be great. Specially if it is possible to combine the citation link feature from google scholar, and other feature of zotero pdf reader (like highlighting, commenting, etc)
  • +1 Yes, this could be very useful.
  • +1,i like it!
  • +1!!! Please!!!
  • I think my question from July 2024 still stands: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/472327#Comment_472327

Can anybody identify a code repository for the Chrome extension or documentation for this supposed API? To the best of my knowledge there is no official Google Scholar API that is publicly available, and all non-official solutions that interact automatically with GS (including Zotero) can get your IP banned for a while if you use them too eagerly.
  • The official mail in extention store is scholar-chrome-extensions@google.com,maybe we can send mailಠ_ಠ
  • I really like the Google Scholar Reader Extension a lot!
There is a way to use it within Zotero 6:
    1. Install the Scholar Reader Extension in Chrome and change the Chrome extension settings to "Allow (local) File-URLs"
    2. In Zotero Preferences > General > File File Handling > Open PDFs using .. select "Custom" and insert path to Chrome.exe
    3. Now every time you open a reference with PDF, it will open in the Google Scholar Reader Extension of Chrome

If you want to be able to have both options, e.g., to take notes within the Zotero internal PDF Viewer, you can additionally install the Zotero-Add-On https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-open-pdf.
On a right-click of a reference it will give you the option to open the PDF with the internal viewer.
