Endnote to Zotero: transfer of citations?

We have a manuscript written with citations in Endnote, but are currently switching over to Zotero. When I tried copy/pasting a paragraph from a chapter done with the Endnote software, Zotero failed to recognize the citations (even though we have already exported the reference library into Zotero from Endnote.) When I tried creating a bibliography with Zotero, it told me I have to first insert a citation...(ie, it treated it as a regular Word footnote.)

Does anyone know if it's possible to transfer documents done with Endnote into a Word document with Zotero so that Zotero recognizes the citations?

Thanks so much!
  • simple answer - unfortunately it's no, absolutely not, and unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future.
  • Just to give you some background — the CWYW citations in your EndNote-supported document are tied to your EndNote database with a system of codes that is transparent to EndNote only. That is the reason Zotero cannot recognize them.

However, for a workaround, you could try the RTF scan feature. That may be faster than doing it by hand.
