How to display column numbers instead of page numbers in repeated quotations?

Zotero allows you to give a column number instead of a page number. But it does not work when the citation is repeated.

For exemple:

If I cite the following encyclopedia for the first time, I get the result I expect:
THOMASSIN Louis, Ancienne et nouvelle discipline de l’Église touchant les bénéfices et les bénéficiers, Paris, François Montalant, 1725, vol. 1, col. 1430.

But If I cite it a second time in the same text, here is what I get (it indicates "p. 368" instead of "col. 368", although I did specify I was giving a column number):
L. Thomassin, Ancienne et nouvelle discipline de l’Église touchant les bénéfices et les bénéficiers, op. cit., p. 368

The same thing happens when the two quotations follow each other, here is the result:
THOMASSIN Louis, Ancienne et nouvelle discipline de l’Église touchant les bénéfices et les bénéficiers, Paris, François Montalant, 1725, vol. 1, col. 1430
Ibid., p. 1431

Would anyone know how to fix that?

  • That would likely be an error in the specific citation style you're using. Which is that?
  • I am using the "Presses universitaires de Paris Nanterre (note, French) " style:
    https://editor.citationstyles.org/styleInfo/?styleId=http://www.zotero.org/styles/presses-universitaires-de-paris-nanterre

I have made some modifications, but not on that point of pages/columns.
  • I fixed the Nanterre style -- you can see https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/pull/5376/files for the changes I made
  • Thanks a lot for your help!

Sorry to answer so late, I had some trouble with my Internet connection these days.

    Once again, thanks a lot.

  • Sorry, I am afraid it did not work.

It just supressed the indication of the column number in the references that were giving it. Now, it always indicates a number of page, even though I specify that the number I am giving is a column number.

Maybe it is because I use a slightly modified version of the Nanterre style.
  • Have you tested this with the Nanterre style itself? If it's working there, the problem is indeed with your style -- the Nanterre style isn't super-well coded in general, so there are likely other problems with it, but the issue above would definitely work.
  • Yes, indeed, it is working! I probably did not download well the Nanterre style yesterday when I tried it first.

I am going to try to adapt your solution to my own style. I hope it will not be to difficult...

    Thanks a lot!
  • Sorry to highjack the discussion but I stumbled over the first sentence: "Zotero allows you to give a column number instead of a page number. But it does not work when the citation is repeated."

I cannot figure out how I can use a column number instead of a page number. Could you enlighten me please?
