Help! Where have my PDF files gone?

I've just got a new Mac laptop and am trying to download everything via Zotero Sync. On my old device, all the files were taking up space on my storage (I pay for 6GB), but they wouldn't port over. The new computer was saying it couldn't find the path—which I assumed was because of it being a new machine.

So I tried to save everything to Zotero on my old machine so that the pathways could work. A pop-up box appeared saying there were "conflicts" and would I like to resort to the "local" OR the "remote" versions. I figured that because I pay for cloud storage via Zotero, the "remote" version would be the version uploaded onto the server.

However, when I said "yes, choose remote for all conflicts" (or something similar), now none of the files are accessible on the old device, let alone the new one.

I've just checked my Zotero storage amounts online, and it's gone down by something mad like 2GB. This makes me worried that all the files have somehow disappeared. I've tried looking in my Bin on the old computer and in the old folder that the files were in (in, I think, a Google Drive folder), but I can't see them.

Does anyone know what's going on and what I can do about it? I'm petrified. There were well over a thousand files in My Library.

Thanks in advance!

I mean, you're at your storage quota, so potentially lots of files haven't been uploaded. The 6 GB of uploaded files would be available on all other devices.

I don't know what you mean by this. There was nothing you had to do here other than either increase your storage quota or transfer the data directory manually — see Transferring a Library. If you did something that triggered lots of conflicts, that sounds like something that you very much did not want to do. But I genuinely don't know how you would've triggered that.

You're currently at 6 GB. Have you done something since posting here?
  • Hi there. Thanks so much for your help, and apologies for not having been clear.

I've now resolved the issue, both by increasing my storage quota (it transpires that some of the files had uploaded and others were stored as linked files) and changing my Zotfile settings to make sure they're uploaded.

    Thanks again!
