Android: WebDAV sync issue: Unknown error + Some data in My Library could not be downloaded

edited September 3, 2024
Thanks so much for including WebDAV support in the latest Android beta. I could not be more excited about this.

When syncing Library I end up with "Finished sync (26 issues)", but no detailed info as to what those issues are or how I can resolve them. When tapping that info, I see "Error - Unknown error".

In one occasion received the following: "Error - Some data in My Library could not be downloaded. It may have been saved with a newer version of Zotero. Other data will continue to sync."

The number of sync issues and error messages are consistent on a second android device running Android 14.

Android 13.1
Zotero Android beta 1.0.0-97
Zotero macOS 7.0.4-beta.1+576e50552

I understand WebDAV setups are not supported. But I would appreciate any input to get my setup straight. I did some digging and found the following:

    - apparently in ~2022 I used "Linked Files" for a while
    - the pdfs in questions reside in my WebDAV Zotero folder
    - this causes problems for iOS + Android clients, which cannot access those files
    - when adding new files in zotero, those land in the macOS user folder /zotero/storage/ in a folder per attachment (Stored Files)
    - I think (not at my second mac currently) that syncing to a 2nd mac works and the files added in that way are downloadable on iOS + Android
    - in order to resolve this messy setup and turn linked files into stored files I tried "Tools > Manage Attachments > Convert Linked Files to Stored Files"
    - however this function does nothing, the attachment remains a linked file and the file is also not removed (the latter probably expected, as conversion did not work)

I am fine manually doing the leg-work to convert those files. I am just wondering, should I file an issue about the conversion not working?

Manual cleanup done. Sync issues seem resolved in iOS. On Android however Zotero still shows 32 sync issues, which I am now not sure what those could be caused by.
"Error: Some data in My Library could not be downloaded. It may have been saved with a newer version of Zotero. Other data will continue to sync."
  • That likely just means you've used the new annotation types in Zotero 7 (underline and text annotations) that aren't yet supported in the Android app.
  • Great, thanks for elaborating.
  • Hello, I have the same problem "Finished sync (33 issues)" but I'm not sure it's coming from the new attoation types because I only have 24 PDF annotated. Also, I've just imported some annotations that were coming from an external PDF reader and the number of issues when syncing didn't change (33).
