Exporting and Deleting Group Library and PDFs

I have a group library that is no longer actively used. I would like to archive it and delete all the PDFs from Zotero storage altogether, and archive it on my own. The group library is currently 5GB.

When I export the library (all notes and files), it creates an RDF file that is only 2.1MB. Does that file really contain all the PDFs? I can only open that RDF again in Zotero. If I delete the group library, will the PDFs still be there? How can I get all the PDFs back out?

I don't want to lose my original PDF files, but I would like to archive them myself.

You have to export with files. The files are included in a separate 'files' folder in the export folder.

Make sure you have file syncing set to "at sync time" for groups. Currently all attachment files need to already be available locally in order to be included in an export with files.
  • Thank you!! I see now that the PDFs are exported to subfolders that are each given a unique numbering. Once I take all the pdfs offline, when I import the rdf back to Zotero, can I use the references in the library but keep the PDFs offline? Is there a way to reconnect them? Thanks again!
