Zotero 7 Export Collection/Library feature is not exporting PDF files correctly

When I tell Zotero to export a collection (or my entire library), it doesn't export most of the PDF files. The process appears to start correctly, but it stops randomly before finishing. It usually stops after exporting a few hundred PDF's (out of a collection of 1000). The point at which it stops is different each time. Some of the PDF's it does export are incomplete (e.g., the file will contain just the first few pages of the complete document).
  • How long did you wait? Currently, if you include annotations, the progress dialog closes before the file export finishes.

If you've waited and you think it's not working, we'd want to see a Debug ID for reproducing it. You can keep the View Output window to see when activity stops.
  • Export Library appears to be working properly. As you suggested, I wasn't waiting long enough.
  • Export Collection still doesn't seem to be working though, which is strange. I'll save the debug and report the bug within the next few days.

    Debug ID: D668114986
    Report ID: 628712558

The Debug Output indicates an error when attempting to export many (but not all) annotations. *All* the errors appear to be associated with annotation exports. I haven't yet found a clear pattern as to why some annotations export correctly and others return errors.

This problem appears to be specific to Zotero 7 -- I checked my backups made with Zotero 6 and have found no evidence of this issue.

(Also, when an annotation export error is encountered, the associated PDF is also not exported--this is apparently the cause of the .pdf export error I posted about above.)
  • @althing7 Could you send the item RAVDI4VP PDF file to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?

You can find the PDF file by pasting RAVDI4VP into the search field.
  • @martynas_b I just emailed you the PDF file. Let me know if you need anything else on my end.
  • @althing7 Thanks, but I'm unable to reproduce the issue with this specific file.

In future Zotero versions, we plan to continue the export process even if some PDFs fail. Instead of stopping, we’ll display a list of PDFs that failed to export.

In the next update, we'll skip extra processing for PDFs without annotations, which also contributes to some of the failures.
