Crash during update

Since the last few betas, when I get an alert that an update is available, I okay it, then Zotero quits and crashes. After a little while, it does relaunch in updated form.

Is there any way to stop the crashes? They look like this:

  • Delete Zotero from Applications and then reinstall, either the release or the beta. Your data won't be affected.
  • Are you using any sort of unusual system setup? External monitors, appearance settings, system utilities, etc.? We haven't received any other reports of this.
  • No, and besides, it just started happening with the last few betas. The only change I can think of is the upgrade from Sonoma 14.6 to 14.6.1.
  • Not much relevant to this has changed in recent betas. Does it happen if you update from this beta (from July 3) to the current beta?

Are you running any plugins? If so, you should confirm that it happens with all plugins disabled.
  • I have exactly the same problem on Apple Silicon. It also started occurring since one of the more recent beta updates and now also when updating from stable 7.01 to 7.02.

    See my questions above.
  • This could be related, but I have been getting crashes with recent beta and releases as I restart Zotero on latest Sonoma with a crash report that looks similar to the one above. I have been able to reproduce it when I do both:

    1. Have BBT plugin enabled and Zotero restarted at least once.
    2. Change the language of the Zotero app under Preferences.

I should report to the BBT developer.

I think that I was also getting crashes without changing the language until recently, but I cannot reproduce that now. Not sure about that.
  • Better BibTex is also the only plugin I use, so it will be probably related to that.
