I updated Zotero and now it doesnt work

I updated Zotero and now the app doesnt work at all, i cannot uninstall it, i cannot open it, i cannot see the error message, the only message i can see is this. Whatever I do changes nothing. If i press yes it reboots my laptop and then it asks me again when i press on the app, if i press no also nothing happens.

thank you so much for any help. I'm not that good with laptops, so I really dont know where to start.

  • Did you try to run the installer again? If it displays a similar dialog, choose "No" and let us know if that helps.

    I tried that multiple times, either choosing yes or no, it has the same outcome. Everytime I click on Zotero that window appears :(
  • Sorry, just to clarify: I meant running the installer, not the Zotero program. You can download the Zotero installer from https://www.zotero.org/download/.
  • Yes I understood what you meant, I did that many times, didnt work.
  • When you run the installer and are asked the question shown in your screenshot, choosing "No" should delete the entire folder where Zotero is installed (or display an error message if that's not possible). I'm surprised that, in your case, nothing happens. We will investigate this and work on improving it. However, in this particular case, you should be able to manually remove the folder where Zotero is (or was) installed, and then running the installer should work correctly.

    Hi, I've had exactly the same issue after updating from Zotero 7 32bit to the 64bit version. Choosing no does nothing, choosing yes restarts the pc and I get the same dialogue OP posted. I have tried downloading and running a fresh installer to no avail. If I try to uninstall I get the dialogue OP posted. to confirm, the 32bit version of 7 was working great - it's just the upgrade to x64 that's lemoned it.
  • I dont know if this is what helped me, but I deleted my antivirus (AVAST), I ran the update again and clicked on no and it worked. I also deleted all the zotero folders before, but then I still had the problem for a bit so I dont clearly know what made it work at the end, but I will suggest trying this things.
