Using copy and paste to add notes

I am having trouble using copy and paste to add notes to my library entries. The first time I try this with any given note, everything works fine. But if I then try to add to the same note something else that I have copied, the paste option does not light up when I right click at the point where I want to add text. This happens both when I want to paste text from a source outside the note and when I want to move text around within the note.
  • I can't replicate this issue. Are you running any other Firefox Extensions? If so could you disable them in see if the problem continues. If that does not help could you try to isolate the fewest number of steps to recreate the problem and report back with what version of Zotero, what version of Firefox, and what OS you are using?
  • I disabled the only other Firefox extension I had (Evernote), and rebooted both Firefox and the computer. I get the same result. As I said before, it will allow me only one paste per note. Interestingly, within a note I am always able to copy text with a right click, but not cut text. I am using Firefox 3.0.1, Zotero 1.0.7, and Windows XP.
  • Here is a further clarification, after playing around with my notes for a little while. If I immediately type text into a new note, I am able to cut that text (so it disappears), but I am not able to paste it back into the note. If instead I copy the text, I still can't paste it back into the note. All I am able to do is paste text from another source one time. Thereafter, I can't paste anything into a note. If I immediately type text into a new note and do nothing thereafter, I am able to paste text from an external source one time only, as I just said. If instead, I immediately type text into a new note and then do nothing more than copy what I have entered, I am thereafter unable to perform any paste from an external source.
  • Hey, I did my part in responding to your request for additional information. Is somebody working on this?
  • After repeating some of the things you describe above, send in an error report using Report Errors under the Actions (gear icon) menu and post the Report ID here.
  • Thank you for getting back to me. I made several unsuccessful attempts to paste text into notes. I then filed an error report. The error report ID is: 179573218
  • A couple things to try:

    1) Temporarily remove GoogleDesktopMozilla.dll, GoogleDesktopMozillaStub.js, and GoogleDesktopMozillaStub.xpt from C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/components and see if that helps. Some Google Desktop–related messages are showing up in the error report.

    2) Create a new Firefox profile, install Zotero into it, and see if you get the same behavior.
  • Dan,

I did everything you suggested. Even reinstalling Zotero into a new Firefox profile did not fix the problem. As before, I am only able to make one paste per note. I did a new error report using the new profile: 737770603
  • OK, try the latest 1.0 dev XPI and see if that fixes the problem. You can safely install it over 1.0.7 and revert back to 1.0.7 afterwards.
  • Yeah, that did the trick. Everything is working perfectly, and there are no error messages. Thanks so much. I look forward to using Zotero now that I have this little nuisance out of the way.
  • OK, thanks for your help. If you stick with the 1.0 dev XPI, I'd recommend switching back to 1.0.8 when it's released.
  • Ok, I'll do that. Thanks again.
  • I am also having the same issue. I cannot copy the note that I have added to on Zotero but the original words from pdf. This is really frustrating. Any solutions to solve this?
