Z7 rocks, Question Re: Group Sync

edited August 18, 2024
First - I just got Z7 - Love the new look, it's WAY faster (at least for me in Word on PC).Again, huge congrats on Z7, it made me realize how many features of Zotero I wasn't using but should be...

To the question: I do a lot of systematic reviews/meta-analyses and thus end up with a good number of group libraries. Recently I've been deleting them so I don't have them on my desktop, but there are drawbacks to this for strict recordkeeping purposes. I would like to keep the group libraries on the web but not have them show up on my computer. One of my issues is many of the libraries contain similar citations, but I only 'clean' one version of the citation, but also because citations were quite slow with Z6 in word for me when i had a number of group libraries. I saw there were older threads from a year or so ago saying this feature was coming (keep group on web, remove from local zotero). I was wondering if it was implemented and maybe I'm just missing it :)

Thanks and please keep up the great work with the Software!

Edit to fix the title because it didn't like Z7 = <3

    That feature is implemented.

You can choose when of your group libraries to sync from the Sync section of the Zotero settings (I also have a lot of finished meta-analyses I don’t sync anymore but keep around online for archival purposes).
  • Thank you, that stopped the syncing. However, I am wondering if there is a way to remove the group libraries from my desktop so that the only ones I see in Zotero desktop are the ones I'm working on? I hope that makes sense.

Example: Is it possible to do the following -
    Web: Store Libraries 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Desktop: I only see Group Libraries 3, 4 as available, it's as if the others do not exist.

If not, I suppose one option would be to export the library and save it with the rest of my files for each project, then delete the library. Which isn't the end of the world, just not my preference :)

    Thanks!
  • Right click on the library name in the left pane and you can remove it

This is what I see for group libraries when I right click.
*edit for clarity* - I have already chose not to sync these libraries, closed and restarted zotero just in case it was something related to that

It's not yet implemented but is still planned. Once done, disabling a group for syncing will remove the local copy.

Edit: Just saw your edit that clarified your message. Thank you, I'll be patient until the feature is done :)
