Easy file renaming for articles imported through the Connector?

Having upgraded to Zotero 7, Zotfile no longer works (as I knew was going to happen). One functionality I've lost is for articles imported through HeinOnline, etc. to be automatically renamed. Is there a way to make that happen automatically? Alternatively, is there a way I can batch rename a bunch of PDFs? Right now I have to go to each item imported, expand the item, right click on the PDF itself, and select Rename File from Parent Metadata. Streamlining this somehow would be great.
  • Files are already renamed on importing using the connector, see https://www.zotero.org/support/file_renaming#attachment_title_vs_filename
  • Any reason why that functionality wouldn't be working for me, then? On multiple machines, after importing an article from HeinOnline through the Connector (using Microsoft Edge on Mac) the file is just named "Full Text PDF."

What is named "Full Text PDF"? Is it the attachment (i.e., in Zotero, under/attached to the item) or the PDF file itself (i.e., in Finder)?
  • Oh, I see, I thought it was one and the same. The PDF is renamed in Finder but not Zotero itself.
  • Read the link pasted above by adamsmith. That's the title for the attachment, which is a description of what the file is: "PDF" for example.

The filename you are looking for is on the right-side pane, which is often just a repeat of author name - Year - Title, so it is redundant to show it in the center pane. The PDF filename is renamed both in Finder/Zotero. The title is different.
  • That makes sense!
